Now, first of all, i know that this is not beginners as in forum beginners forum. But i couldn't find any other forum to say this. So i randomly (not so randomly, thought at the first glance that this is the new users forum) picked this and sent my reply here.

Why on earth are the contents centered? Makes users to switch off the CSS styles. Rather hard to read the code listings as they are centered :) Also why texareas text is so darn small.

What Browser are you using?

I'm using IE and the contents are not centered and the text is rather large.

Can you be more specific as to any and all display problems.
I want to clear this up ASAP!

Is all text centered? Including CODE and QUOTE boxes?

Is all text small?

Okay, thanks for pointing out this problem.

I just tried using FireFox and for some reason it centers all the text
something the MS Explorer does not, so we'll have to see if we can modify the code so it works with both.

I'm still not seeing the "small" text, can you please be more specific about that.

Alright, I just made some quickie brute-force mods to the CSS and things look a lot better under FireFox. I still need to check a few other areas, but please let me know if there are still display problems.

Small text problem occurs with firefox (minefield means only firefox, but dev nightly version)

I put the font dialog to show that i have default 16 size font in the settings, since that is default i can assume that it should be shown right. I haven't looked up the CSS but i know that problem most likely is in the font-settings, if you put like font-size: 50%; then it may recursively reduce the text size according to standards, IE may not understand this standard. So setting percentage/ em/ relative font-size should be done only to elements that does not have same elements inside, these elements are correct: elements with ID or body,h1,h2, ... these are incorrect: td,div,span,li,ul,...

Also it's possible that IE also understands this standard but has some min-font-size limit where it stops (the recursion) in this case.

It sure is shame that IE does not follow even the easiest standards around, makes web developing way harder.

Add: I'll point out that the content in the pages are relatively small too, so it probably is defnined even before those.

I've set the default display font to Courier 14.

Courier because we want a fixed pitch font for text alignements.
Size 14 for "normal" text, which should appear fairly large.

Size 12 for "code" to cut-down on number of lines that wrap.

I've check it with WIN IE and Firefox and it looks good.
What say you?

Well, it doesnt seem to be solved, there is very litle possibility that it actually is bug in the dev nightly of firefox, but i havent encountered similiar on other pages so i'm a bit sceptical about that possibility.

And debugging that CSS is just too mess :) There are too many font-size settings in one css file, normally you need (for normal text, not headers) normal size and small size. And not billions like in this forum system. But anyways the biggest problem is fixed, this is usable now and thats all to use it. I can always rise the font-size from the browser quick font settings.

I'll reply back if I have some spare time to debug which of those settings causes this oddity in this version of firefox.

Oh yeah, and also, the monospaced courier is not visible as i look this.


Add: I just tried to remove all font-size settings from the style tag beginning of this file, it seemed to solve it, but no courier yet..

I also noticed in your screenshot that the area for entering text is very small, whereas with the IE and FireFox I've got here that text-entry area takes-up most of the screen(?)

If it's any help I noticed that on some system if Courier New is used in place of Courier, the text is much smaller.

Whats that? I don't think it kills the parser but it sure is not correct color attribute ;)

BTW; for fun you may try to remove all font-sizes. Also there is recommended that pages uses the font-size user has set to their browsers, thats how it is intented in the first place to use. Most of the CSS design sites even encourages this. Only setting few font size for example with relative 0.75em, but with browsers you should never use px,pt as font-size

I never used numbers to replace or neither it looks anything similiar around it... neither it is normal size of color.

I don't know why you are getting those small letters for posted text.

If you look at the CSS code they use for this board you'll see that I modified the fonts for postings, quotes and code to the SAME Font: Courier size 14 (with code using size 12pcx) and the font you are showing for posted text does not look like a Courier font at all.

What version of FireFox are you using? Is it Windoze, Mac or Linux?

I've tested both IE on Windows XP/PRO and Mozilla FireFox under Windoze also.

The small-text bug existed only on Minefield (Firefox 3.0a1 nightly). So I think it was only the problem in developer version of Firefox, although I didn't see similar bugs on other web pages but people do win in lottery and sometimes the most unprobable happens :)

I think it would be best you to delete these posts about the forum layout, since seems like someone already has tried to ask actual things related to actual topic of this forum. It looks like it's buried under our intensive thought rumble.

I'll get back to reading.
